He was patient with me. I told him what I wanted to learn and he based his lessons on that. He encouraged me to loosen up and not worry about making mistakes.

I have learned so much from my classes with Ron. He offers guided instruction in a manner which helps you feel challenged but not overwhelmed. Ron brings a fresh perspective which keeps his lessons engaging while allowing the student to explore various media. I highly recommend his classes.

I like his style of teaching. More casual than structured. Questions could be asked at any time. He worked with you one on one if you needed the help. You are encouraged to paint what you see and feel. You do not have to follow the reference photo so closely. Encouraged students to do their own thing. We do not see everything the same, therefore encouraged students to put their mark on the painting. Very patient with all and very down to earth. One person’s question can benefit all and he always asks if we are ok and “getting it”. He says most mistakes can be fixed. Sometimes they are good mistakes. I highly recommend him as an excellent teacher. I have taken watercolor, soft pastels and colored pencils. Love doing the soft pastels.

Ron always tried to teach what I wanted to learn. If we came across a deficit during one lesson, he tried to offer me way to practice that skill at the next lesson. He and I had different “likes” and we knew that and enjoyed exploring together. Having had little art instruction, there were so many new things for him to show me. He pushed me to explore going “with the flow” of the paint and colors that appeared, to be unplanned, to discover what just happens. I look forward to exploring more art dimensions with him in the future. He will personalize your lessons as you discover your own new expressions of your talents.

    Frequently asked questions

We meet first, a courtesy meeting, to see if we will be a good fit. We talk about the student's desire, why they want lessons, and their time commitments to insure their success.  We work in 2 hr sessions (with a moderate fee) and I offer handouts for at home reading and for processing what we learn in our sessions. We do weekly check-ins to make sure both the student and I are reaching the goals desired.

I'm mostly self-taught, which helps to guide beginners in ways that help them reach their goals with kess frustration, simple steps, to know what products to buy without wasting lots of time and money.

My sessions are $20.00 for 2hr sessions for any medium I teach. While I'll share some of my own material at different times, each student must be responsible for bringing their own material to each session.
