STUDIO EXPRESS
About
I am a New York trained fine artist specializing in abstract expressionist art.
I am also a professional business consultant, and I head up my own Executive Search and Executive Coaching Firm. I teach Public Speaking and provide Executive Career Coaching Services.
I attended Sweet Briar College in Virginia and The School of Visual Arts in NYC, and graduated from Excelsior College (Formerly Regents College, University of the State of NY) I have a background in Fine Arts, Economics, and Liberal Arts.
My gift is to be able to help my students find their inner creative voice and set it free, whether it is in the art studio, during a job interview, during a presentation or for a school project. I help you find and use your inner creative tools so that you can express yourself well.
Maria Elena is considered one of New York’s early 80’s artists; studying painting, photography and design at Sweet Briar College and New York’s School of Visual Arts where she entered the New York art scene. Her abstract paintings continually express themes of the human subconscious, nature, spirituality and world events.
I love teaching students. It does not feel like work, rather it is a joyful experience for me. I love helping people to discover the fun and excitement of working with and playing wth art supplies, gaining confidence and developing a personal process which leads to an expressive art practice.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We spend a little time getting to know each other and sharing our stories. I can learn about my students during this time to better understand where they are coming from, and what types of things they feel confident in, what their challenges are, and what they would like to explore.
We talk about the lessons and then we dive in! It's always an adventure!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelor of Science Degree from University of the State of New York, A Foundation in Painting from The School of Visual Arts, and I studied painting with Lauren Oliver at Sweet Briar College. I have worked with the Mint Museum giving a talk as a Featured Artist and was also invited to teach for the Women of Abstract Expressionism exhibit in Charlotte.
