Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I believe in teaching "hands-on" photography using lectures followed by time in the field to practice what was taught.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am and Adobe Certified Instructor as well as an Adobe Certified Expert for Lightroom and Photoshop. I hold the Comp TIA Certified Technical Trainer (CTT) credential and I am a member of Nikon Professional Services (NPS)
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
For classes it depends on the size of the class and amount of time requested. For individuals requesting private tutoring it is $63/hr.
How did you get started teaching?
I was recruited by the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill as an Assistant Professor.
What types of students have you worked with?
High school age and up.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I taught the post-processing section of Canon Explorer of Light Chas Glatzer's technical workshop in St. Augustine.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Check out the instructor, make sure they teach the complete photography course, not just one way to photograph. Get recommendations from former students if possible.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Does the class include how to photograph on all camera modes? Will it include post-processing? Is there a textbook? Does the instructor photograph with the students or does he not take a camera so he is there just for the students? Interview the instructor if possible.
