About

I own Charlotte School of Music and have been teaching since I was 16 years old. I love what I do, and I have slowly built my studio to include a total of five teachers who live all over Charlotte. We come to your home, teach in our own homes, and do Skype/FaceTime lessons (preferred method!). We are members of Music Teachers' National Association, and you can check us out at www.charlotteschoolofmusic.org. My performing website is www.jessicaborgnismusic.com if you want to check me out.

Thanks!

Jessica

Frequently asked questions

I offer one free session to begin. During this lesson, I take time to get to know a little about the student and share some of my background. I do an initial assessment by teaching some basics to the child and seeing how strong their fingers are, their hand-eye coordination, how well they have a natural ear for music, and how quickly they might be able to move through a curriculum. After our first lesson, I let the parent know what curriculum I recommend and whether or not I think their child is ready for lessons.

I have been playing piano since the age of four. I began accompanying a high school show choir at the age of fourteen, have won two national performance competitions (in both piano and voice), began teaching at the age of sixteen, and studied piano and vocal performance in college while pursuing a recording career in Nashville, TN. I began Charlotte School of Music in 2009 and have watched the studio grow since then!

Yes! I do not charge "per lesson", rather per semester. Tuition is based on how long your lessons are per week (you may choose between 30, 45, 60, 75, or 90 minutes), and every student receives 15 lessons per semester. You are able to pay for the semester in full at the beginning of each semester, or you may make monthly installments on your tuition. *It is important to note that some months you might not receive as many lessons, but this does not change the cost of your tuition for that month.

When I was sixteen, my teacher had some beginning students whom she could not place with herself, so she gave them to me and allowed me to teach them in her studio under her supervision.

I have worked with students of all ages and all abilities. I have worked with 87 year olds wanting to learn how to sing, I have prepped professionals for auditions, I have taught high schoolers wanting to do musical theater how to carry a melody, I have helped students prepare for and win festivals and competitions. I also work with students with special needs and have training in how to teach autistic children. Our studio also teachers visually impaired children how to play piano.

Only hire a teacher who is able to get your child excited about playing piano and/or singing. If your child does not enjoy it, he/she will never succeed!

Am I ready to put in the effort to make this successful? By effort, I mean PRACTICE! Am I ready to devote 20-30 minutes, 5 days a week to my craft? If the answer is "no," you should reconsider even beginning this journey!
