About
After 42 years as a cellist member of several major American orchestras, I have retired and moved to Greensboro, North Carolina. I have over 40 years of experience as a cello teacher and audition coach. I feel that I am uniquely qualified because not only do I have extensive knowledge of the symphonic repertoire, I spent 30 years in the Met Opera Orchestra. For now lessons will be held online.

I wholeheartedly recommend Samuel Magill as a cello teacher. Besides professional qualifications, he has a warm, welcoming personality. Mr. Magill has a boundless enthusiasm to share the knowledge with his students. From the first day, he showed much interest in his new child student, and was very generous with his time. Thanks to his teacher, my son learnt a lot and rapidly grew musically during relatively short period of time. Meanwhile, I, as a parent, managed to explore not only musical territory, but lots about myself. As another wonderful teacher and cellist, William Pleeth, said “Heaven forbid that I should try to explain what I mean in black and white- it is very much person to person”, I would say the same. My appreciation and admiration of Mr. Magill’s skills, patience, understanding and endless qualifications would make this review very long indeed, therefore, let me just say, dear reader, you have nothing to lose and a world to gain by coming into contact with Samuel Magill. Thank you.
