About

Hi, my name is Reggie Graves and I’ been playing the guitar over 35 yrs now. I’m a self taught musician, I learned my craft through being around some of the most incredibly gifted musicians you ever wanted to meet & that to me is priceless. And of course studying all the music books I could find to sharpen my skills as well. I’ve been teaching the guitar for about 18 yrs now! My passion for this instrument is endless. I knew at the age of 16 that I would be making a living playing the guitar. Over the years I’ve recorded with several national & local artist, toured the world with if you’re interested in becoming a songwriter I can help you in that area as well! gospel artist performed with jazz artist as well. One of my long term goals was to write, arrange & produce my own record which I had the opportunity to do so in 2016, now I’m currently in the process of writing, arranging & producing my first jazz project! I love all styles of music, I personally think it helps you to become a well rounded musician & it has itsadvantages. I’m in the process of building my website so I can post some of my performances later, however I do have a few links of myself performing at my church. So if you’re intereste in me teaching you or your kids please don’t hesitate to reach out to me. Thanks and God Bless!

    Frequently asked questions

For a beginner who’s never had lessons  before, I generally start with teaching them how to hold the guitar & the pick. Then I’ll teach them the  letters & numbers of the strings. And if they learn thisprocess fast I began teaching some basic chords to develop finger coordination!

I studied music theory books on my own for over 25 years now. I was taught guitar by my father at an early age of 10 years old, he encouraged me & my other 3 brothers to play an instrument. Bass,Guitar, Drums & Keyboards. My father’s was a versatile instrumentalist playing guitar & keyboards. I’m highly trained by my ear. I read chord charts, some tabs but I’m not a sight reader. Sight reading is generally use for studio or live orchestral concerts!
My standard pricing is $65 an hour, that also include travel expense. If the student comes to my location it’s $55 an hr. I say 1hr sessions because 30-45 mins really is not enough time to run the curriculum process.
I got started teaching around 1995 in my home town Greensboro NC @ a local Music Store in the area for a couple of years then I moved to Charlotte NC in 2003, then I began teaching a couple of students I met in the church I was working at that time. Around 2010 I started working for a Music School named Creative Edge. I worked there from 2010-2016. When they closed their facility I started teaching a few students from my house as I do now.
All types, everyone has different genes of music they like. I try my best to accommodate them all no matter the genre except for the music that displays negative verbal lyrics I don’t approve of!
A recent event I’m fond of concerning my prior students it would have be one of the band showcases I organized through Creative Ej. I was also a band coach at this facility as well!
Not just hire someone based on his knowledge or skill alone, also based on his experience of playing & interacting with other musicians, and his patience willingness to help the student to develop @ their own pace.
    1) You’re not gonna learn this instrument over night. 2) It takes time & patience 3) You have to be committed to the process 4) If you commit yourself to the process you will see results in time.
