Coach P 's Basketball Lessons

First is to develop an understanding of their skill level

by Q/A and a battery of skills test . Next, develop 

a relationship with the student to know their interest, goals

and playing background.  Also let them know my playing, 

and coaching experience and few of my former players and

where they started.  Finally based on their initial battery of

skill test, begin with skill level appropriate drills and 

expectations so they know what to emphasize in their 

independent practice.

I began coaching professionally as a Boys Jr High Head  

and Boys Varsity assistant, after  three years, elevated to

Varsity Head Coach where I continued for 19 years. First in

WV and then PA. Directed youth basketball camps and 

worked in the nations largest and most prestege basketball

camps in the Northeast.  Learning player development 

strategies and drills from some of the best High School

and College coaches in the game. In addition to camps 

and countless coaching clinics as well as personal round-

table talks with todays elite D1 -D3 coaches, I have 

27 years of Elementary Teaching and 8 years of

3rd grade thru 8th grade AAU coaching. Currently coaching

and director of Pk Flash - South which has won a national

championship -2018 and NC State Championship - 2019.

I have over 30 players that have gone on to play college

basketball, with one currently Euro Player of the Year 

in Germany- 2019  My coaching partner has 20 plus years

of coaching both boys and girls High School in NC,

numerous players playing in college, European

Professionally and the NBA. Both of us are USA Basketball

Certified and Official USA Basketball 3x3 Instructors.

After graduating with an Elementary Education degree

from Shepherd University - WV, I  began teaching and 

Head Coaching Jr High and High School Varsity Boys as an 

assistant for Morgan Co. School District - WV.
