My name is Susan. I have been teaching English in various countries since I was 11 years old with my adventurous parents. As a college grad, I followed their example and I taught in Seoul, Korea; Bolivia; Spain; NYC and Washington, DC.
I have a MA in Teaching English To Speakers Of Other Languages from Columbia University. I have taught many students of every age and skill level. Ewha University, Manhattan International School, Professional Children's School, Drew University are a few places I have taught.
I look forward to hearing from you!
Enjoy your day!
Susan
I enjoy meeting people from other countries. I love helping them to learn English and to get comfortable with American culture and customs. I understand how frustrating it can be to learn English. It can be a confusing language. I will make learning enjoyable with interesting topics to speak, listen and read about.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to have a conversation with the student and get to know their language ability level, get to know them and listen for areas in spoken English where they need help.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have taught every grade level for almost 12 years in NYC, NJ, Korea and Spain.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
$40/hour lesson
How did you get started teaching?
I began teaching English as a 12 year old when my parents moved to Korea for my father's job as an engineer. As soon as I enrolled in Korean school, I became the designated English teacher on the morning broadcast to the entire school. It came naturally to me and I enjoyed it.
What types of students have you worked with?
I've worked with many different kinds of students from all over the world. Some of my students have been children studying English because their parents wanted them to learn. Many of students have been US immigrants who studied diligently to pass a university entrance application and find a good job.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I recently enjoyed hiking with my family in the mountains. We loved cooling off in the waterfalls and enjoying nature. Being away from our smartphones and other distractions was very good for our souls as well as bonding time for us as a family.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would say that it is important to have a good rapport with your English teacher. The teacher needs to be kind, patient, well-trained and most of all they must be an excellent educator of the English language.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Why am I studying English? Is it to be a better conversationalist? Is it to be good at reading and writing? Do I need to improve to be hired for a better career?
When a student has a clear goal, they will be better motivated to put forth the efforts and achieve it.
