My service is unique in that I focus on the concept of "deep practice", and feature a sequenced curriculum that students work through at their own pace, gradually building their skill level. I also utilize both old and new methods of instruction; much of what we do is inspired by the teaching philosophy of the 19th century French Acadamies, but it is delivered in a way that incorporates online learning managment systems and digital feedback. I myself am also a working artist and teach out of my studio, allowing students to see the progression of my current work and see that I "walk the walk", not just "talk the talk".
I love sharing my passion for representational drawng and painting with others. It is exciting getting to explain to students that it is all about skill development, not hidden talent, and then seeing them develop their skill set to a point that it exceeds thier expectations.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
If possible I like to meet with new students in-person before enrolling them in the Atelier Program. In our initial meeting we go over curriculum, their exerpience level, review current work, and determine where to begin in the curriculum. It is essential that students are motivated and willing to learn from mistakes. If everyone is comfortable and feels like it is a good fit, then we will move forward.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
In addition to teaching out of my studio and starting the Omaha Atelier of Fine Art in 2018, I have over seven years of professioal teaching experience in both public and private schools as well as community institutions such as Joslyn Art Museum. I specialize in teaching students ages 13 - senior citizens. I have a BS in Art Education from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and an a MA in Art Education from Boston University. I have been a state-certified art instructor for 7+ years. In addition to my teaching experience I also am a working artist specializing in traditional drawing and painting methods. I show my work in both local and regional exhibitions and am represented by two galleries in Omaha, Nebraska.
