About
I discovered that with school age students, music study reinforces "pattern recognition", which has been shown to cross over into other areas of study and help in achieving other goals as well. With adult students, the "recreational" aspect of piano study is more important... it is the journey of making music, and that enhances enjoyment of playing, relaxation, and other positive effects..
I derive great satisfaction watching a student's progression from the very first note played, then the progress as each song is played throughout subsequent music. But the greatest joy of all is watching when a student encounters a stumbling block, and then reaches that "AHA!" moment of conquering the problem!

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
For adult students: think about what you would expect the teacher to help you achieve. Playing Classical? Pop? Jazz? Blues? We do it all here!
• For parents: what would you like to see your child achieve? Would you be willing to help your child remember when to practice every day?
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
• For adult students: how much time will it take to accomplish my goal? (Consider the satisfaction of playing music you enjoy.)
• For parents: How can I help my child succeed? Am I willing to help my child do that?
