About
I have taught art lessons at a variety of different locations over the past 20 years...in classrooms, after school programs, paint nights, recreation departments, through non profit programs, private studios, homeschool groups etc...and now via Zoom.
I believe what makes my classes stand out among others is that I encourage creative expression and exploration of the media more than many other programs where one essentially copies the art of the teacher. While I sometimes employ step-by-by step methods with my beginner students to help increase attention/pencil grip/visual skills and build confidence, I will always try and offer choices and encourage each student to make art for themselves, to create art that brings them joy, vs. art that may please others. I also have been told that my passion for art is contagious and keeps others inspired!
I enjoy working with people of all ages and abilites and sharing my passion for art with others. I love working with young people and instilling within them a love for art that they can carry throught their lives, helping adults find joy, and professional artists refine their skills and grow their creative businesses.

How did you get started teaching?
It is something I always wanted to do. I first wanted to be a public school art teacher but learned that I enjoyed the flexibility and freedom of being self-employeed. Out of college I worked as a preschool teacher and taught after school art lessons, then did paint nights and now I teach a variety of group and private lessons. I love it!

All types from beginner to advanced, ages 3 to adult and have extensive experience with students with special needs as well.
