About this pro

I have taught art lessons at a variety of different locations over the past 20 classrooms, after school programs, paint nights, recreation departments, through non profit programs, private studios, homeschool groups etc...and now via Zoom.

I believe what makes my classes stand out among others is that I encourage creative expression and exploration of the media more than many other programs where one essentially copies the art of the teacher. While I sometimes employ step-by-by step methods with my beginner students to help increase attention/pencil grip/visual skills and build confidence, I will always try and offer choices and encourage each student to make art for themselves, to create art that brings them joy, vs. art that may please others. I also have been told that my passion for art is contagious and keeps others inspired!

I enjoy working with people of all ages and abilites and sharing my passion for art with others. I love working with young people and instilling within them a love for art that they can carry throught their lives, helping adults find joy, and professional artists refine their skills and grow their creative businesses.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

I will ask for a few samples of their work at first (if any) to assess where they are in their artistic development. I also will ask each prospective student what their individual interests and goals are before placement.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

BFA, Hartford Art School, University of Hartford. Worked as an independent artist and art instructor for 20 years. Taught in various locations and with students of all ages.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

Group lessons: $20/class (in 7 week sessions, 1 hour each)

Semi-private lessons: $35/class

Private lessons:$50

Virtual painting parties $25/person (4 person minimum)

Private lessons $50/class

Creative coaching (portfolio presentation, art career planning, critique of independent creative work, etc): $50/1hr session

How did you get started teaching?

It is something I always wanted to do. I first wanted to be a public school art teacher but learned that I enjoyed the flexibility and freedom of being self-employeed. Out of college I worked as a preschool teacher and taught after school art lessons, then did paint nights and now I teach a variety of group and private lessons. I love it!

What types of students have you worked with?

All types from beginner to advanced, ages 3 to adult and have extensive experience with students with special needs as well.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

Had my artwork featured in a documentary film by an Emmy award winning director :)

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Find someone who will support your goals and individual development.

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

What would you like to learn? What are some of your favorite art styles and movements? Is there a medium you'd like to try?
