About
Dimitry Chernavsky is the principal clarinetist of the Livingston Symphony Orchestra, the principal clarinetist of the Hanover Wind Symphony and a member of the 'A La Mode' clarinet quartet. Throughout the years, he has played with the Kiev Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, Kiev Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra, Kiev Opera and Ballet Theatre, Kiev and Moscow Radio Symphony Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra of Columbus (GA), Staten Island Symphony Orchestra and Staten Island Chamber Orchestra. He has given solo performances in Kiev Philharmonic Hall, Moscow and Tbilisi Conservatories, and was a featured soloist on "Rosell" TV show in Columbus, GA. Mr. Chernavsky is a graduate of Kiev (Ukraine) Tchaikovsky Conservatory, where he received Bachelors and Masters Degree in Music Performance and Education. He has participated in various competitions and won several prestigious awards, including 1st Prize at the Ukrainian State Young Musicians Competition and 2nd Prize at the Ukrainian National Woodwind Competition. For the past twenty years, Mr. Chernavsky is teaching students of all ages playing clarinet, saxophone, flute, Ukrainian sopilka (recorder) and trumpet, as well as solfeggio, music theory and music history. Lessons include preparation for regional and state band auditions, concerts and other competitions. During the private lessons students learn proper techniques, posture, breathing, phrasing, articulation, tone, rhythm, sight reading, solfeggio, music theory, play solo with and without accompaniment, as well as play duets with instructor.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
