Kiera W. says, "My name is Kiera Welsome and I am currently studying Musical Theatre at SUNY Cortland. When I came to Michelle as a junior in high school I was hoping to get as much voice training as I could, find out what and how I could improve, learn about the voice as well as my voice, and start preparing for college auditions. Throughout my time with Michelle not only did she successfully help me select and prepare musical selections for my auditions, but I cannot even explain how much I grew as a singer and as a performer.
When working with Michelle we would spend half the lesson on vocal exercises and technique to make sure I was producing the desired sound in a natural, non-forced, and healthy manner. If ever I was struggling, Michelle would create a new exercise or use imagery to make sure I understood what I was doing, what she wanted me to do, and how I could get there. I learned the healthy way to warm up my voice and in doing scales and exercises my range grew and specific exercises helped me work on things I was struggling with. Each week I would leave her, practice at home, and come for another lesson we would see the improvement I was making.
The other half of the lesson would be spent on a wide range of repertoire. Michelle would select songs that would challenge me to work on. She would also help me prepare for every school musical I auditioned for, and work on any song I wanted to in the search for audition material. I felt extremely prepared for my college auditions and extremely prepared for all the auditions I went on in high school and had to go on as soon as I got to college. Michelle also has you record every lesson so that you can practice at home which is very beneficial for doing exercises and listening to her and yourself. In college I still use the recordings from her lessons to warm up and exercise my voice. Michelle is an amazing voice teacher who helped me to grow an incredible amount and train me to be the singer I am today. I loved coming to voice lessons each week and would always feel so happy and accomplished when leaving her studio.
