Violetta Maria Norrie, Harpist
About
I believe in building a healthy technique from the start so that my students can play anything they want without fear of injury. My technique comes out of the french style of Isabelle Moretti with an emphasis on body alignment and relaxed playing. I tailor each lesson to the individual needs of my students and am comfortable teaching almost any style to all ages. I make sure to give each of my students the space to improvise and compose as well as teaching them the fundamentals of music theory, ear training, and the repertoire they wish to master.
I love discovering the individuality of each person's relationship to the harp and music. It is always interesting for me to help the student improve at something they are passionate about.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I generally start with an informal conversation getting to know what you are already familiar with and what you would like to learn. With beginners I like to begin with a few quick diagnostic "tests" to see what areas they are already strong in and what we will need to focus on improving. We then go straight into learning about the instrument itself.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Over 15 years of playing the harp, Manhattan School of Music: Bachelor of Music, Paris Conservatory (CNSMDP): 1 year study abroad
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
$70 per hour at my studio or between $70 - $90 per hour if I travel to you.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students from the age of 4 and up mostly of beginner levels.
