Jazz Composition Lessons
About
I have had experience in a broad array of genres and styles and enjoy them all immensely. My strengths are composing and arranging for jazz and chamber ensembles as well as teaching trumpet and music theory. My passion is finding the right path for each student to attain their personal goals.
Music has been a major positive influence on my life, and I cherish any opportunity to help others reap the benefits of studying music at any level.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The first lesson is always a meeting between myself and the new student. The goal here is to get to know each other and determine if we are a good fit. I want to hear what your ultimate goals are in studying music so I can develop the ideal plan to help you accomplish those goals.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have more than fifteen years of experience as a musician, including a Bachelor's of Music (with honors) from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music and a Master's of Music from William Paterson University. I am currently a member of the BMI Jazz Composers Workshop.
While my primary focus is composition and arranging for chamber groups and big bands, I have ample experience in trumpet performance as well as music theory and history. Depending on your interests, we can approach any of these topics from a "jazz" perspective or from a "classical" perspective. Or both!
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I prefer to build a plan that works for each individual student. My standard rates are in the area of $30-45 for a weekly half-hour or hour-long lesson, but we'll adjust them based on your individual needs. For example, if you just want a few scattered lessons as opposed to a set weekly meeting, or if you prefer shorter or longer lesson times.
