My name is Juan I. Garcia and I am a professional musician with a Bachelors degree in Jazz Performance from New Jersey City University (I speak both Spanish and English fluently).
I am currently working as a Guitar Instructor at the following music schools teaching all ages, all levels:
1) The Community Music School program at New Jersey City University,
2) New City School of Music
3) Piero's School of Music.
I am also the lead Guitarist of the band "Sunrise", one of the bands of the company "Crossing Midnight Entertainment".
I have been an instructor for more than 10 years and these are some of the styles I teach among others:
Blues/Jazz/Rock /Pop/Bossa Nova, R&B, in Electric or Acoustic Guitars.
Lessons include, Music Reading,Technique, Repertoire, Chords, Theory, Improvisation, Finger picking, Scales.
I teach all ages and from Beginners to Advanced players.
The lessons are always adapted to every student making the learning process fun and effective at the same time.

Lessons start with a first session of evaluation to determine the level of the student, his expectations and goals of the learning process.
Then the program is developed according to the personal goals of the student and his level of Knowledge.
The frequency suggested is once a week, one hour lesson but could be adapted depending on the student's schedule.
Subjects taught will be adapted according to the student's musical interests as well. These include: Technique, Repertoire, Chords, Theory, Improvisation, Finger Picking and Scales among others.

I love teaching and its very rewarding to watch my students grow.
I have a very high rate of retention due in part to the fact that students learn beacuse they enjoy the program.

In 2019 I was the guitarist of Gabriel Alegria’s Afro Peruvian Jazz sextet and played at WBGO jazz radio station in a live streaming show.
I also performed at the New Jersey city Jazz festival with the same sextet in July 2019.
In 2018 I toured with the same band in Peru, South America playing in different Jazz venues and teaching master classes in Music colleges.
In 2017 I joined the NJCU Jazz big band as the guitarist and had the opportunity to play at the prestigious Jazz club “Trumpets” in New Jersey and “The Zinc Bar” in NYC.
In 2012 I was the lead guitarist and song writer of the band BLUE SOUR (an original pop rock band) that was selected as the band of the month in the Australian music Magazine Whotune. The rights of the songs were bought and used for the Facebook game Rock Star Rising. He toured with the band until 2015 playing in different stages in the east coast and clubs in NYC (Red Lion, Prohibition, Bitter End, Session 73, Pianos among others).
I have recorded for different artists in NYC. I was the guitarist of Martin del Carpio’s (an alternative music song writer) Goddard album. Also recorded lead guitars for the pop rock band Men or Myth and their singles. I was a guest artist in John Roccesano’s album Johnny Rock and Friends for the record.
I have been a guitar teacher for more than 10 years and have had the experience to play different styles and genres in the NYC scene.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Lessons start with a first session of evaluation to determine the level of the student, his expectations and goals of the learning process.
Then the program is developed according to the personal goals of the student and his level of Knowledge. The idea is to create a fun experience while learning and a challenging one at the same time.
At the end of every lesson, assignmnents will be given to the student and they will be reviewed at the begining of every lesson to follow up on progress.
The frequency suggested is once a week, but could be adapted depending on the student's schedule.
Subjects taught will be adapted according to the student's musical interests as well.
