About
BACKGROUND
I earned a B.A., magna cum laude, from NYU in History and English (both with highest honors -- U.S. History thesis published). I also minored in Spanish Language and Political Science. While attending college, I worked for a K-12 learning center, focusing on Math, Reading, and Writing. Upon graduating from NYU, I earned an M.S. in Mathetics in one year. I then joined Teach for America, where I taught high school Math (including Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II), U.S. History, as well as select English classes. I subsequently pursued a degree in law, and I earned my J.D. from Georgetown University. Currently, I serve as an adjunct professor at three universities, teaching law-related courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
PRIMARY SUBJECT MATTER FOR TUTORING:
(1) STANDARDIZED EXAM PREPARATION
I have remained active in tutoring across a spectrum of standardized exams.
UNDERGRADUATE COLLEGE PREPARATION EXAMS: SAT & ACT; all exam sections.
I personalize my tutoring approach for these exams to each student. I develop materials in a coherent and clear manner for explanatory purposes. I offer repeated exercise practice, patterned on the questions formulations of both exams.
***Most significant. On a freelance basis, I have served as an exam item writer and content development contributor for both exams (at different times, given the two are created by different, competing companies). For SAT, I drafted countless questions, more consistently aligned with the Reading and Writing/Language but also assisted with Math as well. For ACT, role was very similar.
From these experiences, I have obtained an invaluable perspective many others cannot offer: I know the exams inside and out. I know the concepts tested, yes, but I am trained to think as a test-writer. That means, for each exam, tapping into specific patterns, often unnoticeable to many students, which each exam administration implements for purposes of inducing error. Reading questions -- you'd be surprised how objective each is until you really get the hang of how the exam is designed. That's one example.
Thus, in my program for preparation, I ensure we obtain total competence in all subject matter potentially on the exam while integrating test-taking techniques that, combined, will place you in a position to excel.

**Certified exam scorer (passed all training requirements) for AP US Government and Politics & AP US History exam; have served as a scorer for both in Summer 2020, 2021, and scheduled for July 2022, reviewing thousands of responses of various types; competent in subject matter across both exams and in the scoring procedures for free response questions unreleased/unknown to students; e.g., I can provide you with the most methodical method to approach questions and maximize score on each composition, based on how they are reviewed, what scorers are instructed to look for, and more.scoring procedures, how to best comp
