Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Color theory lessons first: this includes creating color swatches and your own color wheel. Then we would experiment with different tools and paintbrush techniques. This would be followed by still life painting, abstract painting, creating concepts, a master copy and one self portrait. We would also be referencing different genres of art as well as artist both, historical and modern.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Associates in fine arts, currently working on bachelor's degree. Plus a whole lifetime of experience!
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My rate is 65/hr, each lesson is an hour long but it includes assignments between lessons as well as Bristol paper and one 16x20 canvas. Each assignment requires about 2-4 hours of work and will lead Iup to the following project. I will always be available to give you guidance between lessons, free of charge.
How did you get started teaching?
I did volunteer work at Hudson County Community College and found I had a knack for it!
What types of students have you worked with?
Mostly inexperienced, first time painters.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Don't hire someone who's work does not impress you.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Supplies are very important. I can help you find discounts wherever possible.
