I like working with Oogie Art because it is an independent studio class and I can work on what can help me with my portfolio. There is also guidance because the instructors with art backgrounds can help me think of ideas and give suggestions.

I like how everyone is working on their own projects and it is very independent. The teachers are very good at instructing the students on what they should improve on. The studio is very friendly and the art pieces that everyone makes is very impressive. Also, the projects are pretty big, which makes each one more interesting :)

I liked how the teachers pushed me to make ambitious pieces that were conceptually and technically interesting. I also liked that I was able to experience all sorts of materials like wire, oil and acrylic paint, charcoal, plaster, etc.

The balance between creative freedom and structured guidance is unique to Oogie, and it is a feature that has served its students well. I also like the tight-knit community that this studio endeavors to foster, as well as the intimate feeling that the space exudes.

    Frequently asked questions

We first interview students to understand their background, goals, and where they're at to create an individualized curriculum. Based on this information, we begin to make a portfolio, making sure students have a strong foundation in technical skills. Along the way, we check in with students to see their progress, comfort with their work, and to make sure goals are being met. Towards the end we help students organize portfolio works for SlideRoom and create engaging artwork descriptions to compliment their application.

We charge class plans for each semester, which run for about 21 weeks. Students have the option to sign up for 4 hour classes, which cost $100. We have two back-to-back classes available on the weekend and one, 4-hour class on the weekdays. Students must sign up for at least one class a week during each semester, and the number of classes per week goes up depending on their availability, goals, and the grade they're in.

Our founder has been teaching for 35 years in all areas and levels relating to art education.

We've worked with students ranging from middle school to college and adult students.

In 2018 alone, 220 of our students received recognition from the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, 26 of those students received National recognition, and 3 of our students have been recognized by the YoungArts Foundation.

Teacher must have a strong technical foundation and a lot of experience to help students in conceptual and creative development. Additionally, teachers should care about the progress and development of their students.
