About this pro

Hello students, I can offer you one on one on-line lessons during this time of social distancing. I do have a photography studio in Hoboken as well. I can teach you many areas of photography including: composition, lighting, how to use your Digital or Film SLR in manual mode so you can be your most creative.  I will discuss lenses and make it fun and interesting.

I studied photography at New York University over 20 years ago and learned photography using film cameras.

I have had a successful photography business for 20 years in the NJ/NY metro area.

I have been recognized as one of the best photographers in New Jersey for several years.

I love being able to inspire students to be creative and teach them how they can communicate their their camera and their vision.

As a photographer, I enjoy helping others see themselves differently in photographs. I teach them how to relax and pose when being photographed.

Marie was great teaching my 13 year old daughter the basics of photography. My daughter had never used a camera other than an iPhone prior to her lessons with Marie but she really wanted to learn how to take thoughtful, artistic photographs. Marie thoughtfully communicated the basics of photography for beginners and helped my daughter to understand how to take artful pictures. My daughter looks forward to taking additional lessons with her in the future!

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

I would ask them what they would like to learn and start there.  Then I would come up with a series of lessons.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have a BFA in Photography from New York University.  I also taught Photography at Union County Community College for their adult program.

How did you get started teaching?

I taught and developed an 8 week course at Union County Community College.  I have also taught the Girls Scouts.

What types of students have you worked with?

Children from 9 years old and up to adults in their 50's.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

A few months ago I had 17 girls scouts in my studio and I gave them a lesson on photography. I demonstrated how a slow shutter speed with fast movement of the subject can practically make someone disappear. They were so impressed.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Have an idea on what you want to learn and why you want to learn it. Make sure you feel comfortable with the teacher.
