About this pro

Currently attending William Paterson University on academic scholarship as a double Major Studio Art/East Asian Studies with a Minor Japanese Language Concentration. I currently have over 200 hours of classroom instruction, and enjoy sharing my knowledge with others. I currently also homeschool my children, as well as teach private art classes to adults and children in both single and large group settings; as such I am well versed with identifying learning styles and helping my students realize their full potential. I love helping people find their spark, whether through arts or culture, and would be happy to help you find yours!

It’s wonderful watching students progress! That moment when a concept or technique clicks, and a student moves from “practicing” to “mastery” is so special- I love being able to aid in the facilitation of that moment, whether in art or Japanese!

Vicki is super nice..she is great at teaching technique and making art fun. Also, she is good at finding out what level her students are at and giving them projects that are appropriate for them. I would highly recommend her!!

Always enthusiastic and helpful. She is very knowledgeable about Japanese language, history, and culture and is eager to help others understand it all better.

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

For art students, I like to start the process out by learning what their goals and experiences with art instruction are, and we discuss what their strengths and weaknesses are so that I can develop a strategy to help them become well-rounded artists.

For Japanese students, I like to go over any homework/tests they have, if applicable, and provide a sample of reading to assess their skills. Then we talk about their goals and schedule so that we can figure out a time commitment for studying and develop tactics that work with their learning style.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have currently completed 4 semesters of Japanese Language education at William Paterson University under the supervision of native speakers. In May of 2020 I will be graduating from William Paterson University with a duel degree: BA Studio Art and BA East Asian Studies/ Minor in Japanese Language and Culture. I also have over 6 years’ experience teaching art in private and group settings; I am skilled at facilitating creative thinking and helping others to find their confidence.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

As a student myself, I understand that budgets vary from person to person. Please contact me to discuss the details of your particular situation.

How did you get started teaching?

Before I started teaching art, I was a store manager for 6 years at Blockbuster Video. I was an active trainer, and my stores and employees performed well above the company average. My belief is that excellence is a lifestyle choice that involves a daily recommitment to one’s goals, and is best achieved when we surround ourselves with others who share our vision and genuinely desire to support us in being our best self.

What types of students have you worked with?

I have worked with all age ranges, from small children to adults.
