About
My name is Juan Ubiera founder president at Domisol Music Academy. My passion is to teach and play music with new students that share the same feel about music. I believe that music should be taken seriously as any other subject due to its complexity and extension. Therefore, for a better understanding of music in general, I prefer to teach the students to read music with hands on the instrument.
To me, the sound of the instruments is the ultimate enjoyment about music. But an expecific fun part of the work I do with students, is to see how they begin to follow and assimilate understanding of the combination of sound and time. As they progress, I do like to star playing simple music with them, until they get the right feel to move to more complex type of music.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First of all, we will ask the student if she or him can read music. If the student knows how to read, will be tested with book number one to see what he/she knows, or the level we should start. If the student do not read, will start from book one. Domisol Music Academy is an eight level program from pre-K. to the sixth level. Although pre-K and Kinder are used for kids under six years old and are introductory into music, rhythm, and ear training, these very young kids will start learning written music as well.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelor in Music Performance, and a Master degree in Music Education, both from CUNY (City University of New York) Brooklyn and Lehman colleges respetively. AIso, I am a working musician for nearly forty years.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Registration to be student at the academy is $50, the book is $30, and each class is only $20, and there are 16 classes per level (semester) 16x20=$320. The total for each level comes down to $400 all together.
How did you get started teaching?
Teaching music is my passion, it is very satisfactory to me to see a student face when they start to master a little piece of music and have fun with it.

Seen a guitar and trombone students finishing our program, and going to college for music Education. Also, another student is going directly to the military musical career.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
The advise I would give to a new student is to study and practice hard, because music is not as easy as most people see it. People usually takes music for granted, but music is a serious bussiness.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
First, students should love the instrument they want to learn, and know specificly what they want to accomplish, or how far they want to go. For example: who is his/her idol, who they would like to sound like? Because practice rutine is tedious, a student should be passionate with the choosen instrument.
