About
My name is Joe Testa and I am currently the pitching coach and a pitcher for the 2014 NJ Jackals in Paterson NJ. I have been a professional baseball player for the past 15 years. I was signed by and played in the Minnesota Twins and Washington Nationals organizations. I have also played overseas in Venezuela, Mexico, Italy and Puerto Rico. During my last 2 seasons I was hired as the pitching coach for my team as well.
My lessons, drills and teachings are all personalized to the player after my initial assessment at the beginning of each session. There will be emphasis placed on mechanics aiding in the development of the players velocity, control and consistency… as well as, and more importantly, the mental aspect of the game.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I talk to them. I see where they think they are at, where they are actually at, and where they want to be. Every player is different. There are no cookie cutter mechanics or mindsets that will work for every player. My lessons, teachings, and instructions are made to fit that individual player at that individual moment.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have played professionally for 13 years in the Washington Nationals and the Minnesota Twins organizations, as well as in Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Mexico and Italy. I have coached at many high schools, travel programs and college trainings. I have also been coached by some of the best coaches in the game:
• Paul Menhart- pitching coach of the Workd Series Washington Nationals (with Max Scherzer and Stephen Strasburg)
• Alex Cora- manager of the World Series Boston Red Sox
• Paul Molitor- Hall of Fame third baseman and manager for the Minnesota Twins
I have also played with/against some of the best players who have ever played:
- Pudge Rodriguez, Bryce Harper, Carlos Beltran, Stephen Strasburg, Joe Nathan, Troy Glaus, Manny Machado, etc.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
How did you get started teaching?
I always loved helping people and trying to make others better, even when I was playing. I also love motivating and inspiring young athletes to chase their dreams and become the best person they can during the process.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with players from ages 6 to 35.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Do your research. Make sure they have the experience that they say they have. It's very important to feel comfortable with who you are working with. The instructor may be very knowledgeable and a great ball player.. but it doesn't mean they are able to teach it well or relate to the player they are working with.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
1. What are your goals?
2. What are your strengths?
3. What are your weaknesses?
4. How much time do you want to dedicate to training?
