What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First, I'd want to evaluate their reading and writing levels with a written or reading assessment. In addition, I'd ask my student about areas in speaking, reading or writing in which they'd like to improve. After these steps I'd create a unit plan of lessons to engage and to teach the student that helps them reach mastery in these areas.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have taught high school English Language Arts and literature over the past 20 years in NYC schools. In addition to teaching reading and literacy skills I have also created currricula and lesson plans in English Regents Exam Prep, SAT Exam Prep, AP English tests, argumentative and essay writing skills.

My standard fee is $60.00 per lesson in person or virtually via Google video link. One lesson always includes a text to read, clearly written learning objectives, a mini-lecture and time for the student to practice the skill and then to evaluate their level of understanding or completion. All lessons are aligned to NYS Common Standards.
How did you get started teaching?
I earned my master degree in education from New York University.
What types of students have you worked with?
A diverse, primarily African American and Latino students, in New York and surrounding vicinity. I am licensed in New York State and in New Jersey to teach English. In high schools I have taught grades 9 through 12.
