About

A funny and interactive way with role-plays, reading, guided conversations and listening activities to improve your Italian, spoken and read, with a touch of grammar (always in the context of a passage that we have previously read or listened together) and Italian culture.

If you think that the only way to learn a foreign language is with tons of grammar drills, I'm probably NOT the right tutor for you. I use the COMMUNICATIVE APROACH. To see how it works, I offer 2 1 hour free trial lessons- Hope to hear from you soon. Danilo

I studied with Danilo for 11 months in preparation for a month-long trip to Italy. He is a very good and patient teacher.
A typical class involved listening, speaking and grammar study. During the hour-long zoom sessions I found him to be very clear and he reminded me often to stop him at any time to ask “che significa” or “come se dice”. This made the classes comfortable. His method brought me to be able to converse freely about something I had listened to or read, using my own words in fun conversation.
Danilo gives assignments and reviews them in class. He is also available during the week for quick questions through email.
I would recommend him if you want to be at ease listening and speaking as quickly as possible.

Danilo is the most superior instructor for Italian conversation in my experience…He provides many useful types of tools throughout, ie reading comprehension, listening and then creating a descriptive oral dialogue, useful simple pictorial word lists. And most importantly all conversation between student and teacher is only In Italian! Danilo helped me overcome my timidty in speaking and also to begin thinking in Italian vs translating from english. Bravissimo Danilo!!!

I am writing this letter for my former professor, and current friend, Danilo. Danilo is a great teacher, an even better person. He was my Italian teacher for two semesters at Holy Family University, and someone I can come to about anything still to this day.
Throughout those two semesters, Danilo showed nothing but the best in his teaching, and communicating abilities. I took Italian at the highly ranked, and nationally acclaimed. Central High School, where many of the top teachers currently teach, and I can truly say no one comes close to Danilo. Not only did I learn more Italian in the little time I spent with him than in my four years of high school, he made me look forward to a three hour night class, which can be hard to accomplish for many teachers.
Danilos teaching abilities will certainly speak for themselves and will not need to be backed up, but I cannot speak highly enough of Danilo as a person. Danilo is a more than a great guy, he is a friend, and is very personable and approachable for even the shiest of people. He accomplishes this through his great, funny, personality and his teaching style.
Danilo loves to interact and speak the language more so than writing it, which leads to a more comfortable atmosphere kids love, and strive in. Danilo makes sure to put his students first above all, and it truly shows. I personally believe Danilo would be a great asset to and teaching core as he bring so much to the table, and will be someone the kids love.
    Sincerely,
Matthew Walton, a former student, Holy Family University

Danilo has been my private teacher in Italian for over a year now. I feel I advanced to where I am now because of his dedication and passion.
From the start, he has you speaking entirely in Italian. When asked for a definition, for example, he will give you a synonym.
His methodology, which is extremely effective include:
Reading articles (from textbooks or newspapers) for 1-3 minutes, then narrate the topic and any details in Italian , then repeating 2-3 more times. Then he might assign further work on the article.
Analysis of all the grammar in the article (example: adjective, singular, male).
Exercises from textbooks on many different subjects, depending on the level you are in. Crosswords, fill in the blanks with the correct word, changing the tense of an article, choosing the correct tense, putting paragraphs, sentences or dialogue in order, matching questions to answers, among many more exercises.
Listening to audio recordings at least 4-5 times, and again, narrate after each replay.
Reconstructing the dialogues from audio recordings word for word, then analyzing the written version to see if the words and grammar are correct.
Role playing based on audio recordings or other situations - he will give an example, like: ”You are the client and I am the airline clerk and you lost your luggage, what would you say?”
Reading and watching Italian language books and films.
I think the most useful thing he ever told me was that it is impossible to understand every single word, that it is fine if you capture the essence, in general, and any details of an article or recording.
Danilo is professional, personable, courteous, articulate, meticulous, passionate and patient. I highly recommend him.
