Michael Calvert Guitar And Theory Lessons

I've been a professional classical guitarist and composer for most of my life, although nowadays I play the lute more than than the guitar. I've taught both instruments plus music theory, history and composition to students of all levels from beginners to professionals, both privately and at Empire State College and Brooklyn Music School. I'm especially good at helping students understand the music they're working on - the structure, the phrasing, the historical context - and not just getting their fingers to the notes. I hold a Licentiate in guitar from the Royal College of Music in London, and a Master's in guitar and composition from Brooklyn College. I have performed throughout the USA, Brazil, Australia and New Zealand, and my compositions, which range from solo instrumental through chamber ensembles to full orchestra, have been performed worldwide.
