What I like about USWEMusic is how flexible Shakar, the vocal instructor, makes learning the different singing techniques that is needed, and how the Shakar is very engaged in what you are aspiring to do and become, and he will work with you to find a solutions on steps of achieving the desired outcome you see yourself doing and becoming. What is your typical process for working with a new student?
My process for working with a new student or client begins with listening — not just to what is being said, but also to what is left unsaid. I pay attention to the tone, intention, energy, and underlying needs behind a person’s words. This helps me understand their goals, struggles, mindset, creative identity, and overall readiness for growth.
Our initial consultation is handled over the phone and is completely FREE. During this session, we explore your goals, your current challenges, your creative or vocal needs, and your long-term aspirations. I also provide a brief discussion on healthy vocal habits (for singers), mindset principles (for creatives and performers), and artist development essentials when needed. You will leave the consultation with targeted takeaway exercises, techniques, and a set of FREE audio lessons.
Because my coaching extends beyond voice training, this introductory call also helps identify whether you need:

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
With over 20 years of experience as a professional vocalist, I’ve spent just as many years as both a vocal student and a peer coach. My training includes direct study under respected instructors such as Ken Tamplin, Roger Burnley, and Eric Arceneaux, and I am currently studying with Grammy-winning songwriter and vocal instructor Gordon Chambers.
In addition to traditional training, I’ve dedicated years to self-education in vocal science, vocal health, creative development, and human performance, allowing me to build a flexible system that supports not just singers, but creatives and developing artists of all ages.
My work blends vocal technique, mindset coaching, artist development, and creative direction — all rooted in real-world experience on stage, in the studio, and within diverse artistic environments.

How did you get started teaching?
I began teaching after spending over 20 years as a dedicated vocal student myself. Throughout my journey, I absorbed everything I could from the incredible instructors I’ve trained with—most recently Gordon Chambers, Grammy-winning singer, songwriter, and vocal coach. As I applied these methods to my own singing, I also found myself naturally helping friends, family, and fellow artists.
Over time, I developed a set of practices that blended technique, physiology, vocal science, and real-world artistry. As more people sought my guidance—and consistently saw results—I realized that teaching was not just something I could do, but something I was uniquely called to do.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.
A recent moment I’m really fond of was performing at the Don Blackman Tribute Show. It wasn’t just a performance—it was a reminder of why I do what I do. The room was filled with musicians, singers, and creatives who genuinely love the craft. After the show, a few younger artists reached out, asking questions about technique, performance, and confidence.
What stood out most was seeing their excitement when something I shared clicked for them—that “lightbulb moment” I live for as a coach. It reinforced how powerful guidance can be, especially for talented people who haven’t had much support or direction. Moments like that remind me that my purpose isn’t only to perform, but to pour back into the next generation of creatives, vocalists, and artists.
It was one of those experiences that blended everything I love: artistry, mentorship, community, and real human connection.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Do your research and take your time choosing the right coach. Look for someone with real experience, proven results, and a teaching style that aligns with your goals. Check credentials, testimonials, and cross-references—but also trust how you feel during the initial consultation. A great coach should listen deeply, communicate clearly, and be able to explain why their methods work.

What is my experience so far?
