Esther Fredrickson Flutist
About
I have extensive experience teaching students of all ages and abilities, and am a frequent guest clinician for group masterclasses and sectionals, as well. While I truly enjoy getting young beginners off to the right start, most of my students are adults or advanced high school students, for which I have the most to offer.
Lessons may take place at my studio in the South Valley, or in the convenience of your own home for those located in Corrales, Northwest Albuquerque, or Southeast Rio Rancho.
My rate is $45 per hour session, plus New Mexico Gross Receipts Tax.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
My students come from diverse backgrounds, so my approach to each new student is always unique! Regardless of your level, my areas of focus are
1. Sound production: fundamentals of, for beginners, and maximizing and improving for intermediate and advanced students
2. Technique: best practices, tricks, ergonomics, practice tools
3: Musicality: phrasing, musicianship, listening critically
4. Practice Strategies: ways to maximize your practice time, exercises for faster improvement
For intermediate and advanced students I incorporate a fair bit of music theory into the technical aspects of our lessons. I also routinely use duets to teach skills related to ensemble playing.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am fortunate to have had the privilege to study with some of the greatest flutists in the world. I received my Bachelor's of Music at the Oberlin Conservatory, studying with one of the most significant members of the French school of flute, Michel Debost. I spent a semester abroad to study at the Sydney Conservatorium in Australia, and then pursued a Master's degree in music performance. In addition to my formal education, I am an active player throughout New Mexico, and consider my real-world experience as a professional to be equally valuable!

What types of students have you worked with?
I have experience teaching students of all ages (my youngest student to date is 7, and my oldest 68!). I enjoy getting beginners off to the best start possible, but also have much to offer to advanced students playing high school and college repertoire. My students have included Albuquerque Youth Symphony members, and All-State winners.
