About
Where I have taught classes from ceramics to painting and many other art forms in between, my mixed media art classes are some of my favorite. I like to think outside the box but am willing to work with each person's individual needs to help fulfill your desired outcome.
I started teaching in the early 1970s when asked to develop and teach for 4 private after school art programs. Helping people in creating their visions is a passion of mine.
I attended the Ivy School of Art in Pittsburgh until it closed in 1980. I then attended UNM after moving to New Mexico.
I enjoy seeing the vision in my mind's eye come to fruition. Often the vision changes as the physical piece develops.
Working with others also inspires me in my own work. We are all constantly learning from each other.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When working with a new student I like to learn a little about them such as what inspired them to pursue art classes. I also feel it's important to find out the student's expectations for the class.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I started developing and teaching art classes while still attending Ivy School of Art. I've taught all age levels but truly enjoy working with young students. I'm currently working with students from Kindergarten - 5th grade.
How did you get started teaching?
I got started teaching while still in art school in the late 1970s. The dean of the school approached me with the idea of developing and teaching an after school arts program for students in 4 different schools. The students ranged from Kindergarten - 12th grade. I ran and taught that program for 2 years prior to moving to New Mexico.
What types of students have you worked with?
I work with students of all age levels. I'm currently working with a group of students ages 5-10 years old.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
One of my most recent found memories is of fiber arts class students this past holiday season. The students worked on a collaborative sculptural installation of Knit Bombing the trees outside the building classes were held in.
Knit Bombing is wrapping an object with knitted, crocheted and woven fibers.
The trees looked like they had very colorful sweaters on!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
If possible talk with the teacher to see if you're compatible.
You want to work with someone who will assist and inspire you to develop your passion.
