Jason Collin Photography
About
I have taught over 300 students my self-developed 5-step process for shooting in manual mode with a mirrorless or DSLR camera for getting well exposed and sharp photos in any shooting conditions.
Lessons are 2-hours and customized to each student's level, from true beginner to experienced enthusiast, I can teach you first how to shoot in manual mode to get the most out of your DSLR, then how to control depth of field (make the background disappear), shoot moving subjects, off camera lighting and much more!
I look forward to helping you get the most out of your mirrorless or DSLR camera and taking your photography to the next level!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The first lesson is a 2-hour lesson starting with introducing and detailing my 5-step process for shooting in manual mode. Then the rest of the lesson is spent taking practical photos using this 5-step method. Future lessons are more focused on one type or style of photography depending on the student's interest. Every lesson is custom for that student's exact level of photography experience.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been a professional photographer for 9 years and a teacher for 18 years. I have taught over 300 students my 5-step process for shooting in manual mode.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Pricing starts at $50 for a 2-hour lesson at my home studio. A discounted 4-pack of lessons (8 hours of instruction) is available for $190. Lessons at other locations are available and the price is determined by location.
How did you get started teaching?
I got started teaching in 2009 when DSLR cameras first started becoming poplular and I realized many people were just using them in auto-mode like a regular point-and-shoot digital camera.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with total beginners who have brought me their cameras still in the box, all the way up to budding professional photographers looking to learn off camera lighting and other advanced photography techniques.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
A recent student took one lesso, then came for three more is successive weeks each time showing me photos he took where he has improved his photography using what we learned in each previous lesson. He will now be able to take great family photos for the holidays!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Ask them if they have a proven, deliberate method for teaching how to shoot in manual mode.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Does the student have time to both take the lessons, and also practice shooting on their own.
