Robert Reck Photography
About
I teach photography, LightRoom and PhotoShop at the UNM Continuing Education Program. I also have been a professional photographer for 35 years. As a lifelong fan of cameras and lighting gear, I have mastered the most complicated style of imagery - architectural and interior photography while working with Robert Reck. Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I have followed each student's preference as to whether they want to work at their residence or come to my studio. A phone conversation can introduce ourselves and discuss the specific needs of the prospective student. Some people are more interested in the photography process as in learning about their camera. Other students need personalized instruction in LightRoom or Photoshop tailored to their style of photography.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a BA in Mathematices from Colorado College and an Associates Degee in Commercial Photography from Ohio Institute of Photography.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Generally, my fees are $25 per hour. If speciialized equipment is needed for the lessons, the fee for use of the gear will be added to the cost.
How did you get started teaching?
I was a math teacher after graduating from college. Photography was a passion that became a profession after attending Ohio Institute of Photography. 6 years ago I was given the opportunity to return to teaching at UNM Continuing Education as an instructor of digital photography and Adobe software.
What types of students have you worked with?
My students range in age from teenagers to retired hobbists.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
My husband and I have been photographing musicians, jazz groups and concerts for years - both in stills and videos. We love to be invited to concerts with our cameras to record the creative and enthusiastic atmosphere of these events. The imagery is distribed by the musicians for their own marketing purposes.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look at the teacher's credentials, be they academic and/or life-learning accreditation.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
How do you structure your tutoring sessions? What hours are you available for instruction?
