About
My name is Shilo, A.K.A. "CooptyLew." (I got this name from my art students after I got married so that I will cherish it always!) I have been teaching art to all ages for 14 years, and I have taught in public schools for 12 of those... I have an undergraduate degree in education and a Masters degree in art. My specialties are drawing, painting, photography, and ceramics, at all levels there is no need to have prior skill in anything to take a class with me. If I can teach 5-year-olds (up to 50 at a time!) to make beautiful art, I can surely give you the tools you need for success!
My life before 2016 was typical. And boring. I worked 10 hours a day, cooked, cleaned, slept whenever I could. Then, in December, my sister died, and I started to die inside slowly. Honestly, I couldn't even convey my emotions through words, and I took up drawing daily as my therapy. It seemed I was great at expressive painting. I started painting every day, for enjoyment and healing. And it was working. In fact, art heals me every day.
And the best part is...
I would gladly teach art every day! I find so much joy in sharing what I have learned about the capabilities for healing and self-knowledge that art has brought to me during my cloudiest, darkest of days. ❤️ For this, I am grateful!

I love to draw and paint because I find it to be healing. I also enjoy BOLD colors and I'm quite eccentric myself... It is not hard to spot the artist in me! I also love to share techniques and ideas so that I can bring people the joy I find in art! You can see my work on my website: www.cooptylew.com
