Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
To discover what you want to accomplish and then fit my knowledge and skills to make that happen.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been a selling and award winning oil painter for the last 15 years. I taught art in middle school for two years. I know more art history than 99% of the general public which it makes it easy to steer students in meaningful and directions.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
$30 for half an hour. $45 for an hour.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching initially as a first time homebuyer home ownership counselor as my primary job is mortgage lending for Pentagon Federal Credit Union.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with adults and children as young as 3. I thought the three year old to ski though. My minimum age for art students is 7.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I like to learn new things in art that is why I like teaching students. Everyone has a different approach to art making and it is cool to see and learn from that.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Always buy the best or near best materials you can. Entry level stuff falls apart and doesn't look good.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
How are you going to original? Do you want to make a statement or are you just wanting to paint something pretty? What inspires you?
