About
Coach of the 2018 #1 team in the State, 11 and Under, Division 2
I am a registered Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) coach.
Also an "Official USA Basketball Youth Development Gold Licensed Coach". USA Basketball is the non-profit organization and top governing body for basketball in the United States. The organization represents the United States in FIBA and the men's and women's national basketball teams in the United States Olympic Committee.
In 2015 the first year of my AAU team, Brooklyn Excel Basketball, we made the AAU Nationals for 10 and Under with a team of mostly 9U athletes.
My focus is on the players learning and acquiring the fundamental skills needed to play the game. I follow the National Association of Basketball Coaches and the American Sport Education's guidelines for "developmentally appropriate" skills for each age level. This approach consists of teaching the fundamental skills: footwork (stance and steps); ball handling (dribbling, passing and catching; shooting; rebounding; and defense.
I have also sponsored city-wide basketball tournaments and have been led basketball clinics with Larry Johnson of the New York Knicks and legendary PSAL Champion Coach Ron Naclerio.
I have a passion for teaching basketball skills but also helping to shape well-rounded athletes. I am certified by the Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) as a “Double Goal coach”. (A Double-Goal Coach strives to win while also pursuing the more important goal of life lessons through sports.)
I adhere to the principles of the PCA which is a national non-profit developing "Better Athletes, Better People" by working to provide all youth and high schools athletes a positive, character-building sports experience. PCA's National Advisory Board includes 11-time NBA Champion Coach, Phil Jackson, Lionel Hollins, former Head Coach, Brooklyn Nets, NBA Champion Coach and Head Coach LA Clippers Doc Rivers, and many other outstanding leaders.
