Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
At first I discuss the student's situation with his/her parents, because usually the parents are the ones who express the need for tutoring the student.
I then chat with the student and form my own understanding of some of the student's needs.
I then provide an evaluation exercise whereby I can get a clearer understanding of the abilities, strengths, weaknesses etc, of the student in the particular area of study, whether Mathematics or ELA.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My normal rates are $30 per hour. However, I offer a discount package whereby any student interested in paying for some sessions in advance receives an additional $5 discount on each session paid for in advance.
For example:
2 sessions paid in advance: $55 instead of $60 ($5 saved)
3 sessions paid in advance: $80 instead of $90 ($10 saved)
4 sessions paid in advance: $105 instead of $120 ($15 saved)
...and so on.
How did you get started teaching?
Soon after I left college, I began teaching elementary school as an assistant teacher. I then received two years formal teacher training before returning to the classroom as a licensed teacher.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I began tutoring a 5th. grader in mathematics. When we started, she lacked self-confidence to the extent that she spoke in whispers.
As we progressed with our studies, she eventually became the ONLY 6th GRADER IN HER ENTIRE SCHOOL to make the Math Honor Roll. She went on to receive the Presidential Award for the most improved student.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would advise the student to feel free to have his/her parents ask the tutor to allow them to get some feedback from a parent or parents who had or are still having ongoing sessions with the particular tutor.
