About

I am a retired NYC public school music teacher, with 35 years experience. I teach all ages and abilities. I specialize in prepping students for auditions to Magnet schools, NYC Arts high schools and college auditions.

Music lessons are held in my studio on Saturdays in the Ft. Greene/Clinton Hill section of Brooklyn. I hold a BFA from Long island University in Jazz Performance on Trombone.

I hold a Master of Arts from Brooklyn College Conservatory in Secondary Education.

I love music and I love teaching other people how to play and sing so they can love it too. No matter how young or how old you are, everyone can learn to play an instrument and get enjoyment from the making.

Weve been with Mahasin for a few years now. My son wanted to get into a specialized high school for performing arts. My son never had vocal training in his life. With Mahasins teachings my son got accepted to Brooklyn High School of the Arts. Weve been utilizing her services ever since.
Were also utilizing her services for my upcoming wedding. My son and his cousin will be training with her to perform a couple of songs for the wedding.
Shes a fabulous teacher! She works well with my son, who is on the autism spectrum. She is patient, kind and honest.
I recommend her highly.

I have worked with students from diverse economic and cultural backrounds. If I think I have taught someone to the best of my ability, I have a network of colleagues to recommend to students who wish to go further.

I had the privilege of playing music by Arturo O'Farrill on trombone with the Brooklyn College Conservatory Big Band. ( as an alum)

Students should be able to say by the end of the first lesson if they want to continue with you. Hitting it off personally with the right teacher is the beginning of building trust. Trusting your teacher is the best way to get started.

This ______is the music I'm interested in. Can you help me learn to play it?

The _______looks so hard to play. When will it sound musical?

I really want you to be my teacher, but the price is a little too much. Can we work something out?
