Sarah Goss Harpist
About
I have been playing and teaching the harp for over two decades on 4 continents! I absolutely love this beguiling instrument and feel so blessed that I get to introduce others to it. I teach both pedal harp and lever harp and can advise beginners on what would be the right choice for them. I teach all ages , levels and styles (classical, Celtic, pop, arranging, improvisation, theory) face-to-face or remotely. Lessons are always focused, varied and fun!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I work with new students to match them with an appropriate harp and establish their motivation, goals and current knowledge base.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a degree in Music (BA Hons) and two decades of experience as a professional harpist and music educator.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I teach 30min, 45min or 60min lessons. I have different pricing scales depending on whether lessons take place in my Brooklyn studio, the student's home or remotely (Skype / FaceTime / Zoom etc).
How did you get started teaching?
When I was in High School my music teacher gave me any violin and piano students she couldn't fit in.
What types of students have you worked with?
All ages (3 - 84 years young!), levels and backgrounds.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Last year I chaired the Yvonne LaMothe Schwager Competition for Young Harpists. This biennial event drew 37 competitors from NorCal and Nevada aged 9 - 25 years. I organized this on behalf of the Bay Area Chapter of the American Harp Society.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Get the best teacher you can afford. Not every teacher is right for every student so make sure you are happy that your teacher is a good fit for you.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Where does your desire to play the harp come from? Is there anything specific you want to play? How much time do you have to practice?
