House Of Kitani Sewing Lessons
About
I am a professional seamstress with over 36 years of experience. Sewing since I was 7 years old, and a classically trained as a Fashion Designer. I worked as a NYC Fashion/ Costume Designer with over 17 years of experience in the industry.
I have designed my classes so you will never need another sewing class again. It's just up to you to practice the skills taught.
I have my own professional sewing studio in Bushwick, Brooklyn where I can teach you on either home sewing machines or industrial sewing machines.
I teach....
Hand Stitching Techniques
Fabrication
Cutting Techniques
Pressing Techniques
Commercial Patterns
How to make your Own Patterns
Sewing on both Home and Industrial Machines
Plus much, much more.
Please DO NOT contact me to sew first samples, sew an item for you, or make patterns for sample production. I am NOT interested in doing any of that except to teach you how to sew.
Thanks.

How did you get started teaching?
I have changed businesses from the Fashion Industry to owning my own Business doing Art Parties.
I have always been a great teacher and did not want to stop teaching others about sewing and the fashion industry because I have so much knowalage that should be pass down.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have 3 types of students.
1. The student listens to me and make garments they are proud of and will wear and move upwards and onwards.
2. The student realizes this is just too much work and too much investment.
3. The student wants to do this but due to life's obsatcles cannot continue lessons.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
You can go to MOOD fabric house in the city for "Free Sewing Lessons" Where they teach you how to make a tote as long as you pay for their fabric which is way too expensive. And make a Tote you will never use nor know how to make again.
Most teachers will charge you $50/ hour. At least the good ones. They will teach you maybe 1 or 2 hours. Most likely they do this so they always have a student.
I however do not want to drag a person along. I teach you the moves to be a Prima Ballerina of a seamtress and it's up to you to continue to delevop your skills once taught.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What exactaly do you want to make?
