About

My work is my biography, my intoduction, and a promise.

All art that you do develops the artist within and without. Learn to leave the details for the end, find and develop the big elements of your drawing or painting first. Discover the dynamic line and develop manual dexterity with eye hand coordination. Train yourself to see, and then draw what you see. Perspective and the Landscape. Drawing interiors, magical or realistic. The self portrait. Color development. Composition....how to set up and draw a still life...the metaphysics of the ordinary object. Where to position your lighting and why. Drawing...how to use charcoal, soft pastel, oil pastel, conte crayon, pencil and pen and ink. Changing scale....How to enlarge or reduce. Painting...watercolor, acrylic, gouache and oils. Learn how to stretch and prepare a canvas for painting with oil or acrylic.

Frequently asked questions

For drawing and  painting I give them a material list, make the appointment for the lesson, and when they arrive, we begin painting immediately.

In 1974, I graduated with a BA in The History and Literature of Religion from NYU and moved into a loft on West 4th street, in NoHo downtown Manhattan... I began putting my University experience of Protest and Art into my life's work. I learned how to silkscreen during those years at the Women's InterArt Center - making political posters for the anti-war and women's liberation movements...from that silk-screening experience I proceeded to make fine art prints, posters, silk screened T-shirts and handmade greeting cards

I worked in graphics...remember this was the 1980's and 1990's- before the computer...everything was made by hand and PRINT was King!  Working in Advertising agencies, promotion houses, independent studios and magazines, I made a living and honed my skills.

In the mid '90's, I studied at the Art Students League of NY for 4 years, made sculpture at Greenwich House and other Potteries. In 2004 I taught Hand-building Ceramic Sculpture at Cornell in Ithaca NY and when I returned to Brooklyn, started teaching in my studio.

$40/hour in my studio

$65/ hour in Student's home...depends on travel time, more than 1/2 hour travel time, fee is negotiated.

It is a natural extention of my work.
