About
Brooklyn Music School, founded in 1910 in Brooklyn, NY, is a community performing arts school in Fort Greene. Operating as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, its mission is to make high-quality music and performing arts instruction accessible regardless of background or resources. Programs serve all ages and experience levels, including private lessons, early childhood arts, youth and adult classes and ensembles, music therapy, camps, outreach, and the ArtsReachingYouth afterschool enrichment program for ages 5–11. Instruction covers piano, guitar, voice, violin, brass instruments, and drums and percussion, with frequent performance opportunities.
BMS owns and operates a historic four-story facility with 24 classrooms, three dance studios, and a professional 266-seat Spanish-style theater established in 1926. The school offers studio, theater, and instrument rentals. Financial aid, scholarships, and discounted payment options are available. Brooklyn Music School is a long-standing member of the National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts.
