About
Piano lessons, Jazz & Classical.
All levels, all ages.
About me: 19 years experience as a teacher. I mainly teach kids/beginners & intermediate level at the moment but I also have adult students. I am a Jazz pianist/composer currently living and working as a freelancer in New York. I produce and release my own music/cds, too. My last two albums as a leader (third and fourth albums) with my NY band Ditmas Quartet got two 4-star reviews on DownBeat Magazine in August 2016 and last year in the fall in 2018. I also teach improvisation and composition from teenagers to adults. I adapt to your own rhythm and progress. You choose how often you want to schedule lessons, weekly or every two weeks.
Before moving to New York, I had a teaching position at the Royal Conservatory of The Netherlands where I had studied. I was teaching Jazz piano to jazz students in their Bachelor mainly, also jazz drummers. I have a broad experience teaching in music schools and privately, from very different levels and ages. Teaching Music has made me become a VERY PATIENT and organized piano teacher. I listen and adapt to your needs.
I graduated at the Royal Conservatory in The Netherlands in May 2009, Master in Jazz Composition. I also finished a Bachelor in Jazz Piano in June 2007 and same year also at Escola Superior de Musica de Catalunya, Barcelona, Spain.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I usually give a trial lesson to see if we are a good fit. You play, I can see your level, technique, sound and the things for you to improve or check out. So you see what you can work on with me at class directly and figure out yourself if you want to do the work and commit to the lessons. I have a very effective method where you will see fruits fast. But for that you need to be constant in your practice and must have an instrument at home. That is my only requirement. We both want to see progress. For me the most important part is having FUN while learning. Taking lessons is a commitment and I seek for regular students ideally. I am flexible with styles, songs, repertoire etc. And I do provide and print charts if you do not have the book. But I am demanding in terms of your progress so we also get your self esteem level happy while learning. Otherwise it is not fun for you or for me.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I was classically trained at a young age, did all my classical piano studies at Conservatory. Then got my Bachelor and Masters degrees in Piano Jazz and Jazz Composition. I have 19 years teaching experience. I am a passionate and patient teacher who will give you strategies to improve your musicianship, rhythm abilities, music language, expression, technique, posture and approach/ personal research when learning a particular piece of music or style.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Teaching Policy and Payment:
My rate is $85/ hour and you pay for a certain amount of lessons in advance. If you book two months of weekly lessons or more you may get a discount. Lessons can be 30min (for kids) or 1h long (adults). I usually take monthly payments by check early month. I always send you my availability online in advance and you may fill in the dates where you want to schedule your lesson. This way we can plan ahead. I do not accept cancellations on the same day!! Only if you are sick, then we may arrange a make up class some other time.
How did you get started teaching?
I was very young in my early twenties and still studying at college. I was hired at a music school for the first time in my hometown Barcelona and became a piano/ music history teacher. Since then I love teaching! It is rewarding to see students taking challenges nicely and seeing progress. Music learning is a whole life progress that never ends.
What types of students have you worked with?
Very diverse: from little kids (3 year olds as after school teacher) to pre teenagers and teenagers, young college students in the jazz department, adults, and also elderly retired people twice. Also students from beginner to amateur advanced to professional musicians. All ages and levels.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
My private student concert two weeks ago which I organize twice a year (before Christmas and in early June). And the student concerts through my day job where almost 80 students played. It was very rewarding!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Be constant, accept the challenges always, find the time to practice and enjoy making Music at class with your teacher.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What are your strengths in music and what are your weaknesess? From there you will know what and how to practice more in order to make time productive.
