My approach to teaching is grounded in the belief that students need a solid music foundation in order to grow artistically. This requires focusing on the fundamentals while still making the experience engaging and fun. Drawing from musical styles including Jazz, Classical and others, I seek specific exercises that contain the scales, modes, intervallic studies and rhythmic exercises that work towards improving mobility, endurance, sound and overall technique on the instrument. I also strongly create opportunities for improvisation, which is an exciting way for students to discover their own voices and gain greater command of their instruments. While developing these basic skills on both the saxophone and piano are essential for any student of these instruments, the method in which I teach each individual is never the same as another. I find that no two student's interests, goals and needs are the same and I work to create lessons that will engage each student in a challenging, fun and creative way.
