Writing is my passion, but I know it's difficult. Expressing ourselves in a clear and compelling way takes work, inspiration, and a willingness to edit, review, and improve our creations.
I can help you improve your understanding of grammar fundamentals; organize your ideas to more effectively make your point; enahce your style and readability; learn strategies for self-editing; and polish projects you are currently working on.
I have over 20 years of experience helping people improve their writing for school, work, and creative projects. This has included working with native speakers of German, Vietnamese, Russian, Afrikaans, Korean, and more to help them improve their expression in English.
My academic and professional background includes a degree in journalism from The George Washington University, working at the Associated Press staffer, and being an award-winning novelist (e.g., Library Journal's Best Indie Ebook 2017 and multiple starred reviews from Publisher's Weekly).
Writing is not a skill with rigid rules so much as firm guideliness and generally accepted conventions. Each person and their voice is different. Eventhough I'm the one teaching, I always learn something new about writing from everyone I work with.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When I start working with a new student, I want to know (or help them set) some specific goals we can work towards together. I also ask for some writing samples, so I can see where they are now. I also like to find out what the student enjoys reading.
Since writing is about expressing ourselves, it's also important to me that I have the sense of the student and their "voice" so we can make that align with their projects, so I absolutely want to hear about who they are and what's important to them.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Prices range from $30 - $40 an hour dependeing on the levevl of the student and how much time I will spend reviewing/correcting/editing and providing feedback to written assignments between our lessons.
