About
I am a nationally exhibited artist and published author (Arcadia Publishing) specializing in photography. I have 10 years of intensive experience in photography and over 40 years of experience in the arts (e.g., music, writing, painting, etc.). In addition, I have over 30 years of experience as an entertainment attorney and manager helping artists develop their full potential. I am in frequent demand as a public speaker at museums, galleries, conferences, universities, camera/photography clubs, and high schools. So I know how to take complicated jargon-laden concepts and break them down into easy-to-understand practical steps.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The student should give me a specific list of their goals.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have extensive real-world experience in teaching everyone from novices to professionals. The National Park Service currently hires me to teach six workshops on photography.
I serve as an editor at Aspect Ratio magazine where I select and critique world class photography.
As an entertainment attorney and artist manager, I worked with many of the industry's top photographers such as Ellen von Unwerth (Claudia Schiffer, Anna Nicole Smith).
My photography has been published in many books including one that I authored titled "Weir Farm National Historic Site" (Arcadia Publishing), which is distributed internationally at bookstores (e.g., Barnes and Noble) and online sites (e.g., Amazon).
I have been commissioned by the National Park Service over a dozen times to create artistic photographic collections of historic sites and ecologically sensitive environments.
I engage in candid street photography every day in Times Square, New York City.
My photography has been exhibited at Harvard University and many museums and galleries.
My work in the entertainment industry and helping independent artists has been documented in these two books: 1) Managing Artists in Pop Music: What Every Artist and Manager Must Know to Succeed (Allworth Press) by Mitch Weiss and Perri Gaffney and 2) I Don't Need a Record Deal: Your Survival Guide for the Indie Music Revolution (Billboard Books) by Daylle Deanna Schwartz.
I have a BA cum laude from Manhattanville College where I took courses in painting, drawing, art history, jazz improvisation, and music history.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge based on the student's goals, time commitment, and other factors. I try to charge a fee that is reasonable and commensurate with expectations and that is appropriate given my experience level and credentials.
How did you get started teaching?
When I began, there were no resources like Lessons.com. So I did not know how to attain my artistic goals. After graduating law school, I decided I wanted to work with fellow artists and assist them in reaching their goals -- not just from a business and legal aspect, but also in raising the level of excellence of their art work. I represented hundreds of clients in all areas of the arts - visual, theatrical, musical, etc. After recovering from cancer, I closed my entertainment law practice so that I could devote myself to the arts. In this new career as an artist, I continue to encounter others who are looking to learn more and to get a start as I once I did. So I have greater freedom now to share my knowledge and experience with those who are hungry to see how far they can go with their creative drive.
