Phone call to get to know the student and their wants, needs, strengths and weaknesses to decide what level of training suits them best.
All lessons begin with 15 minutes book work. Understanding the car, your own body, and how they connect is critical. As you can spray see, I'm not an ordinary instructor, I'm Driver Coach. I'll make you the best driver you know.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Certified NYS Driving Instructor.
42 years of real world driving.
Level 2 graduate of the Mercedes AMG US Driving Academy
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Standard fee is 85/ per 75 minute lesson. You will be coached based on your individual needs.
How did you get started teaching?
Because the 15 years old daughter of the Professional race car driver who taught me was killed as a passenger in a fatal car accident. 😔🌿
At 15 she wanted to become a racer like her dad and were she the one driving I doubt the accident would've taken place. The adult driving didn't know what she knew because of who her father is.
I am determined to NEVER see a parent lose a child in a car accident. It haunts me to this day as a parent myself. Young drivers aren't the only ones having accidents today. The elderly are out there, so too are the hot drivers who THINK they're great drivers but show no regard for the safety and welfare of others on the road. You rarely find Professional race drivers getting speeding tickets.
This course isn't just for newly licensed drivers or young people. When I started testing for the position at the top auto school in area, and possibly the state, I FAILED the company owner's road test... yeah, me.
But the truth of the matter is we all forget the rules of the road unless we have a coach, and constant reminders of what the right thing is.
People's lives literally depend on the skills of other drivers.
What types of students have you worked with?
I've taught all kinds of drivers; from those who've never driven a car before, to foreigners with licenses from other countries and everyone in between.
*NOTE* If you don't have your license I will recommend the best driving school in my area. This course would be information overload if you don't have at least some driving experience and can keep the car well on the road. This is NOT a Beginner's driving school. If you still want to gain the knowledge within the T.D.S Academy then go with the online training and the Zoom video calls.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Watching the faces of my students when I read them the DMV road test slip...and it has a "P" as in PASSED.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
What are their qualifications? Do they have references? How long have they been teaching?
Every Certified NYS Driving Instructor is a competent driver and teacher. But if they've never been in actual competition or a heavy car accident how can they know what to tell you to do when or if things go sideways? And accidents happens LESS in track racing because everyone is driving in the same direction. It's not a matter of if you'll be in a situation where things go wrong, it's WHEN. But keep in mind a matter of only SIX INCHES could make the difference between an accident or no accident.
Having a toolbox filled with tips and tricks can mean the difference between an accident and no accident.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Being honest with themselves, then getting honest with me or the instructor of their choice.
If you think you're an awesome driver but others are hinting you may not be, some humility is needed to keep both of us safe during a lesson.
If you think you're a bad driver your probably wrong there too. A bad driver is one who knows the right thing to do but doesn't! do it. A fearful driver I can help overcome almost and fear in the car. Your body is a tool just like the car you're driving; learning how to use BOTH effectively is the key to becoming "the best driver you know."
