I ask that the student sing something for me that they feel comfortable presenting. I positively evaluate what I hear that is good about their singing. With kindness, I articulate what I hear that invites improvement. Then proceed to explain how to accomplish those improvements through an explanation of the physiology involved and an exercise designed to focus on the issue.
