Cello Lessons For All
About
Cello Lessons for All individualizes private study according to the students interests, strengths, and different fun activities to make practicing and learning more exciting. These activities include but are not limited to playing the cello with an orange, trying unique techniques such as chopping and even using the cello percussively. Alongside the standard private training in cello repertoire, the student will get a feel for the range of the instrument.
I enjoy the moments when a student gains a new sense of confidence in themselves because they did something they didn't believe they were capable of.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I begin by asking them about their experience with studying the instrument, formal and informal. I'll ask them to detail the parts of the cello as well as the principles they have been taught about the cello if any. I will ask them about their music theory knowledge if they have had that experience. Then I will give numerous example pieces and exercises to gauge their level experience and comfort with the instrument. If they are new to the cello I will introduce them to bow hold first as well as sitting with the cello.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
My teaching training has been informal from past teachers including shadow classes where I see how the teacher interacts with their student and then in a following lesson with a different student I use similar principles under the guidance of my own teacher.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I usually charge $60 for an hour.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching as volunteer work for students who could not afford private lessons but had a passion for cello and music and wanted to learn. I was in a similar position when I began learning the cello so I think it is an important way to give back.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with a large age range of student both young and adult. Within the younger student age range I have worked with 7-13 year olds. Most of the students are beginner to intermediate level. I have also worked with some adult students.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I am fond of the concerts for comfort that many musicians have participated in to soothe people during these difficult and unsure times amidst the pandemic.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I advise a student to seek someone who can accomodate their style of learning. Some cello teachers are very fast paced and others work very thoroughly or melodically. Consider what you want to get out of studying the instrument and seek a teacher who will help you meet your goals.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Students should think about what techniques have worked for them in their formal schooling. Does repitition of ideas help you grasp a concept better or can you quickly learn and implement a new concept? Do I want to study a more flexible array of music or strictly classical?
