Training For Life
About
Training For Life is a New York, NY–based non-profit 501(c)(3) founded in 2001 that provides emergency preparedness and response education. An American Heart Association (AHA) Community Training Center since 2005, it offers courses for healthcare providers (BLS, ACLS, PALS) and the public (CPR/AED, First Aid, Family & Friends), delivered through regularly scheduled classes and private, on-site training for organizations.
The organization supports Public Access Defibrillation programs with AED sales as a Philips Medical Systems Gold Distributor (since 2020), AED program oversight, on-site AED surveys, and simulated emergencies to assess team and facility readiness. It also serves more than 100 AHA Basic and Advanced Life Support instructors nationwide with Training Center services, issuing thousands of course credentials each year.
Founded by Scott Caruthers, a service-disabled U.S. Navy veteran, Training For Life has partnered with New York City’s Office of Emergency Management to provide advanced training to eligible CERT teams, and has participated in international outreach, including AED placements with the United Nations Association and helping establish the first Heart Association Training Center in the Caribbean Basin in 2009. Its programs have reached more than a million learners over two decades. Training For Life has been selected among the inaugural AHA All-Star Training Centers in recognition of consistent, guideline-compliant CPR education.
