Best Word Coach
About
I work face-to-face with people who want to improve and refine their written and spoken English. My goal is to help boost their confidence and achieve the best possible results from their professional communication: writing & editing, business communication, pronunciation/accent improvement, grammar & vocabulary development.
I had studied several foreign languages in my high school and college years, so second-language learning was second nature to me, and this allowed me to see English from the learner’s perspective -- I began teaching English the way I would have approached a new second language as a learner, starting from basic grammar and vocabulary, and moving step by step up from there. I still enjoy teaching English to groups, but my business is focused on providing individual, one-to-one coaching and consulting.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I meet face-to-face with students, usually one person at a time, in their workplace or home, or if they prefer, at my home.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I began teaching ESL (English as a Second Language) in 1991, and found many of my students were employees or executives of companies that could benefit from direct coaching and consulting on effective use of English language in the texts of their websites and other informational and promotional materials. I had done a lot of job-searching and on-the-job writing and speaking before becoming a teacher, so I turned all those experiences into tips and advice I could offer job-seekers and on-the-job communicators who were still building their English language skills. In addition to running my own coaching/instruction business, I've been teaching ESL at NYU since 2004, and at other NYC institutions of higher learning since 1991. I hold a master's degree in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages).
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Most of my programs are structured in rounds of 6 or 12 hours. My hourly fee is $110, so each 6-hour cycle is $660, and a 12-hour cycle is $1320. I recommend sessions of 1.5 hours each. After completing each cycle, you're welcome to renew for another one: many of my private students work with me over extended periods of time.
How did you get started teaching?

What types of students have you worked with?
