The best teachers I ever had, growing up, were the one's who bothered to explain why their feild was important--to them, to society, to science, to art, to being a person. I remember when my high school english teacher finally put togther that I wasn't just learning to write essays, I was practicing a tradition of communication. Every feild is like it's own language, and learning to speak this new language helps us to make sense of the world with a new perspective. The joy of my work is watching my students grow as people by learning music and meditation.

The first step to working with a student is discussing THEIR interests, and understanding what drew them to an endavor in the first place. The second step is to take their excitement and infuse it into all of the work.
